Best beginner courses to learn AI agents in 2026

The best beginner course for learning AI agents depends on what you will do with them. If you never write code, start with a short course on how AI works and how to work with it, such as Elements of AI or Anthropic's AI Fluency. If you run marketing operations, add a course on prompting and one on a workflow tool. If you code, the free Hugging Face Agents Course and Andrew Ng's Agentic AI course will have you building agents within a week.

I first published this list in January 2026 as one long list of courses. Since then the most common question from readers has been "which one is for me?", especially from people who never code. So this update is organised by who you are, with a section for non-technical professionals and one for marketing operations.

What is the best beginner course for non-technical professionals?

Start with Elements of AI if you want the concepts, and Anthropic's AI Fluency if you want to work well with an AI assistant from next week. Both are free and need no maths or programming.

Elements of AI is a free online course from the University of Helsinki and MinnaLearn. It explains what AI is, how machine learning and neural networks work, and what AI means for society, in plain language. It is the course I recommend to managers who will approve AI projects and want to ask good questions.

AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations from Anthropic Academy is free and teaches a framework for working with AI built on four skills: delegation, description, discernment and diligence. There are versions for students, educators, nonprofits and small businesses.

AI for Everyone by Andrew Ng on Coursera is a non-technical course on where AI helps a business and how to plan AI projects. It is older than the others and the business thinking in it holds up well.

Google AI Essentials on Coursera is a paid certificate course on using generative AI at work, writing prompts and using AI responsibly. Choose it if a certificate on your profile matters to you.

Courses for marketing operations

Marketing operations teams get the most from agents that draft content, enrich leads and move data between tools. That needs two skills: writing good prompts and building simple automations.

HubSpot Academy's AI for Marketing is a free course on using AI for content creation and personalisation, and on judging AI tools for ethical use. It is a good first step for marketers who already work in a CRM.

Google Prompting Essentials on Coursera is a short, self-paced course on writing prompts for everyday work: drafting, summaries, data analysis, and prompt chaining. Prompts are the instructions an agent follows, so this skill carries straight into building agents.

The n8n learning paths are courses in n8n Academy with hands-on workflow exercises, quizzes and a certificate. n8n is a workflow automation tool with AI agent steps, and marketing ops people use it to route form leads, enrich them with AI and update the CRM. Pair it with a no-code builder and you can ship your first agent without a developer.

Courses for developers

Hugging Face Agents Course is free and teaches agents from the basics to frameworks, with hands-on units and a final challenge. You can audit it or complete the work for a free certificate.

Microsoft's AI Agents for Beginners is a free course on GitHub with short lessons, each with Python code samples. Every lesson stands on its own, so you can jump to the topic you need, such as tool use, planning or agents in production.

Agentic AI with Andrew Ng from DeepLearning.AI launched in October 2025. It teaches four design patterns (reflection, tool use, planning and multi-agent workflows) in plain Python, so what you learn works with any framework. You need to know Python.

Build something in your first week

A course gives you words for things. Building one small agent gives you judgement. After your course, pick one task you do every week and automate it:

  1. Non-technical: use an AI assistant with a saved set of instructions to draft your weekly update from your notes.
  2. Marketing operations: build a workflow that takes a new form lead, asks a model to summarise the company and adds the summary to your CRM.
  3. Developer: build an agent with one tool (a search or a database query) and write five test questions to check its answers.

You can find no-code builders to try in the No-code builder category on AI Agents Live.

Questions people ask

Can I learn AI agents without coding?

Yes. Start with a non-technical course on how AI works and how to work with it, then use a no-code builder or a workflow tool to build your first agent. Many useful agents are built entirely in visual editors.

How long does it take to learn AI agents as a beginner?

A non-technical course takes a few hours to a few weeks of evenings. Building a first useful agent takes about a week after that. Developers who know Python can build a basic agent in a weekend.

Are free AI agent courses good enough?

The free courses above are made by universities and by companies that build AI, and they cover the foundations well. A paid course is worth it when you want a certificate or a structured programme with deadlines.
